It is a very touching, dark, and real portrayal of life for African Americans in the Jim-Crow South. While I would have liked him to further explain when the actual freedom of some of these men actually did occur, and by what means, in further detail, I found the book thoroughly enjoyable. As a history undergrad, I believe that this book should be required reading in schools to teach Americans the true cruelty of the slavery that continued for so long in America. |
